Professional Development Seminars


The Professional Development Seminars are a staple of NAAUC. They aim to teach a broad base of fundamental issues relevant in the running of organizations, student or otherwise. These seminar style sessions are designed to empower students by passing on the combined knowledge and experience of the Association, instilling the appropriate responsibilities and expectations in the participants. This year particular areas of interest will include;

Discussion Groups

Discussion groups are where most information is shared between colleges. These small groups allow delegates to share their college’s ideas and systems with other delegates from across Australia. Each year the topics are selected by the delegates to focus on current issues and problems in colleges. An appointed leader, usually a returning delegate, promotes interaction among all participants and facilitates discussion. This year’s discussions will include, but are not limited to:

All the information that is gathered in these discussion groups will be printed in the
Conference Report, so that if you are unable to attend all the discussion groups, as it isn’t physically possible, then you can still read some input from other Colleges.

Workshops

The objective of a workshop is to allow small groups of delegates to participate in interactive sessions led by people with relevant experience in the field. This hands-on experience allows delegates to discuss college experiences and learn more about issues affecting colleges while developing invaluable practical skills. Topics will include:

The NAAUC Conference is directed by veteran college leaders to encourage and aid future leaders. The Role Development Seminars are a key tool in passing information to prospective office seekers and in sharing lessons learned – the hard way – from other colleges.
