Social Highlights
After a hard day listening and learning, the NAAUC 2009 Conference social program will have your delegates relaxing and socialising each night with other NAAUC delegates from all over Australia. With such an intense schedule the social activities each night create a relaxed atmosphere where delegates can meet people from colleges all over the nation, make new friends and revel in the ripping opportunities to just let it all out. Due to the brilliant opportunities to meet fellow NAAUC delegates and learn so much, we encourage all attending to try to avoid spending the night with delegates from your own college so you can get to know and learn from as many different people as possible.
Opening Night
NAAUC ’09 is kicking the week off with a traditional formal St Andrew’s Highlander style dinner in the St Andrew’s Dining Hall. This is not only a time to officially welcome delegates and speakers to the NAAUC 2009 Conference, but a time where our Scottish Heritage is celebrated with bagpipes, a haggis ceremony and Tartan stretching as far as the eye can see. This traditional four course Andrew’s formal celebration gives college delegates a chance to expose their hidden ‘William Wallace’, and wear just a snippet of tartan, or a kilt - if they’re game!
Merch Exchange
‘What better way to instantly get to know someone then to get your kit off…?’
The NAAUC ’09 ‘Merch Exchange’ will be a night where life long friendships will be forged - not to mention the fact that it’s an excellent icebreaker. Held in the newly renovated and infamously renowned Highlander Bar, we ask all attending this action packed party to come dressed in as much of you own college merchandise as you can possibly muster, because by the end of night you’ll be walking away in a rainbow of college colours.
Scribble Party / Pub Crawl
Because we all loved the Trinity College Scribble Party so much, Drew’s is bringing it back with a twist. Delegates are asked to arrive in white shirts, or snowstorm style, with a black marker pen. This night we aim to visit the regular watering holes of the USYD colleges, finishing the night off at our all time fave- ‘The Grose’.
Jam Night
A night to take at your own pace after a week with a hectic social calendar. We will be sitting back and hearing from local USYD college talent and any brave/ musically exceptional NAAUC delegates who will be performing for us in a transformed Highlander Bar and Junior Common Room. The night will consist of a collection of acts, in the style of a Drew’s Jam Night, and if the Brisbane girls are there again we might even hear from our talented IT Officer, the spunky Mr. Ed Cryer.
Sights and Sounds of Sydney (Free Night)
It just wouldn’t be fair if we kept you at the conference all week and didn’t give you guys a chance to see Sydney. So tonight is the night where delegates will be given a choice of dinner and a guided tour of Bondi Beach, Darling Harbour or The Rocks- Sydney Harbour. Each picturesque restaurant will have stunning water views and a trip into the real Sydney will be just what the doctor ordered.
NAAUC 2009 Conference Ball
As promised… (Drum roll please)…NAAUC ‘09 will be having their annual ball at the Sydney Opera House. It has taken a lot of organization and plenty of compromise, but we are proud to announce that the 2009 delegates of the NAAUC Conference will be watching the sun set over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, whilst sipping champagne and feasting on canapés at the Opera House. After we have bid the conference goodbye at the closure of the ball, NAAUC delegates will be bussed to Kings Cross where we shall seriously let our hair down and boogie the night away in some of Sydney’s best clubs.
