Galaletsang Tamasiga

Galaletsang is the Western Australia State Representative for 2026. She is a current resident at  St Thomas More College, where she actively represents the college as an Ordinary Committee Member within the UWA Residential Students Department (RSD). Galaletsang is passionate about building inclusive and connected residential communities that encourage intercultural engagement, student-wellbeing and respectful relationships. Outside of residential leadership, she is involved in volunteering initiatives, such as Red Frogs, that support student safety and positive peer presence. She hopes to strengthen Western Australia’s intercollegiate collaboration and communication to ensure that residential students feel represented and empowered within the wider NAAUC community.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA STATE VISION

  • Broaden the understanding of NAAUC to student leaders and res community

    Increase awareness of what NAAUC is, what it offers & how student leaders can engage with us beyond attending the end-of-year conference. It can be done by promoting NAAUC’s training, resources, networks & leadership opportunities so that more students recognise its relevance to their residential communities.

  • Strengthen intercollegiate participation

    Encourage greater collaboration & involvement between WA residential colleges and student accommodation. The aim is to create more opportunities for residents to participate in shared events, leadership initiatives & professional development.

  • Amplify intercollegiate student leader relationships

    Build stronger relationships between student leaders across WA residences. By creating regular opportunities to connect, exchange ideas & support one another, student leaders can develop a collaborative network that continues beyond individual events or leadership terms.

Western Australia NAAUC History

Western Australia, despite its distance from the bulk of other College campuses in the country, has consistently been one of NAAUC’s most engaged and most valuable states. 

NAAUC has had a strong connection with the students of College Row for over fifty years, and recently, has taken the opportunity to expand that connection to Curtin University and other residential living providers in the state. 

NAAUC’s last National Conference in Western Australia was in 2008 at Trinity College. Over the previous decade, NAAUC held several state based conferences in Western Australia, which grew to be substantial events, far outstripping anything held in any other state. Hopefully, this state based event will return in the not too distant future. 

NAAUC has drawn some of its strongest team members from Western Australia. One example is NAAUC’s 2018 President, who originated in Western Australia. She was pivotal to the development of NAAUC’s program responding to unhealthy sex cultures in Colleges, something that is central to NAAUC’s work and NAAUC’s values. 

While NAAUC lost some connection through the Covid-19 years, Western Australia has stepped back into NAAUC passionately. The Association has appointed three Western Australian’s to its management team in 2026, which will no doubt lead to the reformation of NAAUC and Western Australia’s strong partnership.
